About Us

Wellness for Cancer is for spas and wellness facilities that want to increase their level of comfort and confidence in delivering safe and nurturing services to clients who have experienced cancer.

Our core product is a flexible, cancer-focused educational platform that provides a cost effective solution to train multiple staff, departments, and locations.

We have developed the first standardized objective set of training and business criteria. This approach enables friends and family, employers and end-clients locate providers with confidence.

Each registration dollar goes to support one of our public facing programs.  Please refer to our Give-Back page for more information on these programs.

Its logical that cancer patients and survivors need to visit spas to de-stress and heal, but yet very few spas are trained or have invested in training to empower their staff to be their best for clients who have had or are healing from cancer. Where is the disconnect? The disconnect is two-fold. First, spas must have the proper perspective about supporting clients with cancer, which means understanding that our role is well-being not disease care. Second, we need to take responsibility for our role in holding space for our clients to reduce their stress, find inner peace and increase their emotional resiliency.   Individuals don’t want to go to cancer specific spas; they want to get away from their cancer – they want to visit your spa.

Wellness For Cancer - Instructors

Samarra Robbins

Direction of Education

Samaara Robbins graduated with honors from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy. She studied Massage for People Living with Cancer and Oncology Massage in the Hospital Setting with Gayle MacDonald. She is a Certified Manual Lymph Drainage Therapist and Breast Cancer Rehabilitation Therapist.

Samaara received her first massage ever just a few weeks after beginning treatment for cancer. For that hour massage Samaara felt like just another girl enjoying a spa day--a girl without cancer. Out of that experience she embraced massage for others going through treatment. She worked as the lead massage therapist for Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Vail, CO and opened a private practice in Frisco, CO and later in Truckee, CA serving those diagnosed with cancer and lymphedema.

In 2012, Samaara began teaching and in 2014 she became an NCBTMB approved continuing education provider in oncology massage. She developed the online massage modules for Wellness for Cancer and an 8-hour hands on oncology massage practicum. She is the author of Caring Touch, a manual for massage therapists. Samaara is also a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider offering CEUs to yoga instructors in restorative and restorative flow.

In her spare time she can be found in the mountains hiking, climbing, skiing or just enjoying the outdoors. Samaara is a self-proclaimed “knitting maven”.

Julie Bach

Philanthropist, Curiculum Development, Lead Trainer for Skin Care, Manicuring, Marketing

Julie Bach is the Executive Director for Wellness for Cancer, an educational program under Spa4ThePink, a registered 501 c(3) organization.  The Wellness for Cancer curriculum is based on many people's experiences, including Julie's experience of being in and out of cancer centers for 15-years for her parents, being a caregiver and not knowing what to do, and working with clients who have experienced cancer in her wellness facility and cancer centers since 2001. It is also based on fielding the many questions from within the industry on how to work with clients who have experienced cancer.

The founding and evolution of the non-profit was based on Julie's personal experience of losing both parents to cancer and the internal work that she did with Felix Lopez, mindfulness and meditation teacher.  Julie also attended workshops and retreats with cancer center specialists from MD Anderson to learn how to do her best to overcome her genetic potential.  Julie has been a spa owner since 2001, is a licensed esthetician and manicurist, certified health coach, yoga teacher and holds a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University.

Other Guest Instructors

A collaborative effort with traditional medical, intergrative medicine, wellness, and spa leaders

Our training is built on being collaborative in nature.  Over the years we have reached out to our network of supporters to answer questions that come in from the industry.  And after several years of doing this, we decided it was time to bring our team to you.  To teach the relevant information that is needed and based on evidence.  We are thrilled to bring you many guest lecturers from inside and outside the industry.  Even if you have taken a class, there is always something new to learn.
