Our verification process is an objective scoring system that evaluates your business in five categories: business basics, departments, level of training, business processes, and community involvement

Cancer Aware – Basic

  • Initial level for a business or individual who wishes to participate in Cancer Aware program.
  • Individual or business must document that staff providing services have completed at a minimum an initial level of training in cancer modified therapies.
  • This can apply to a single therapy that is offered such as massage or several therapy offerings.
  • It is inclusive of other fitness and wellness professionals who may offer additional services/therapies to target audience.
  • Individual providing service must have been in practice for a minimum of one year.
  • Training is the most critical factor and is supported by documentation.
  • Additional assessment areas include: business licensing, liability insurance, and sanitation practices.
  • Also required is an interest or participation in community connections with target audience.

Ready To Get Basic?

Cancer Aware – Comprehensive

  • Recognition is guided by demonstrated mastery at a more specialized level of training OR spans across several departments, which enables a client to have a service on any given day.
  • It is inclusive of other fitness and wellness professionals who may offer additional services to the target audience.
  • At this level, the individual or business location must demonstrate that the majority of staff members for each of the therapies has successfully completed the minimum level of training offered for target audience.
  • Additional credit is given for staff members who have taken specialized training that is applicable to the target audience (e.g., Lymphedema, Oncology Massage 2, Reiki, Therapeutic Touch)
  • Training completion is supported by documentation.
  • Additional requirements include written policies and procedures for the business unit addressing key issues such as sanitation, business liability, and welcome desk/front desk personnel standards, and written protocols for staff who provide cancer modified therapies.
  • Business must demonstrate active participation in community connections with target audience. This may be demonstrated through volunteer efforts, fundraising, or other community based activities.
